CEC to Award Two Prestigious Scholarships at 2025 Conference
The Cryogenic Engineering Conference (CEC) will award two distinguished scholarships at the upcoming 2025 CEC/ICMC: the Donna Jung Memorial Scholarship Award and the Klaus and Jean Timmerhaus Scholarship Award. These awards are part of the CEC’s ongoing efforts to encourage the next generation of engineers and scientists in the field of cryogenics, and are funded by the Cryogenic Engineering Conference, Inc., along with contributions from industrial and private sponsors.
Donna Jung Memorial Scholarship Award-The Donna Jung Memorial Scholarship Award, first introduced in 2013, is a graduate-level award designed to promote the participation of women in cryogenic studies. Donna Jung, a former president of International Cryogenics, was a key figure in the cryogenic community and a strong advocate for bringing more women into the field. Her leadership and dedication to fostering inclusivity within the cryogenic sector are honored through this scholarship, which aims to encourage female graduate students to pursue careers in cryogenic engineering and technology.
Klaus and Jean Timmerhaus Scholarship Award-Established in 2005, the Klaus and Jean Timmerhaus Scholarship Award honors the legacy of Dr. Klaus Timmerhaus and his wife Jean. Dr. Timmerhaus was a pivotal figure in cryogenics, serving as the founding editor of Advances in Cryogenic Engineering and co-authoring the influential text Cryogenic Process Engineering. His contributions to the field have been recognized through numerous awards, including the Samuel Collins Award and a fellowship in the Cryogenic Society of America. This scholarship is awarded to full-time graduate students studying engineering or scientific disciplines related to cryogenic technology.
Supporting the Next Generation-Both scholarships are open to graduate students enrolled in U.S. universities who are pursuing studies relevant to cryogenic engineering or technology. The Cryogenic Engineering Conference Scholarship Fund (CECSF) oversees the administration of these awards, ensuring that they go to deserving students with a passion for advancing the field. The recipients of these scholarships will be announced at the 2025 CEC/ICMC, where their academic and professional accomplishments will be celebrated as part of the ongoing mission to foster innovation and diversity within the cryogenics community.
