Digital Submission Specifications

Color:
Color images should be saved in CMYK format. All spot color is produced using four color process.

Borders:
All rules bordering ads must be .5 point in thickness or greater.

Ad Size:
For full page ads, text must be within 3/8″ of page edge. Fractional ads should be set up exactly to sizes as posted on the CSA website. Do not add crop marks. Bleed ads (available on full page ads only) should extend beyond from by 1/4″ on all sides.

Platforms:
PC or Macintosh

Media Accepted:
Digital ad files on email or on CD-ROM (see File Format for details). Email to [email protected].

Supported Applications:
PDF files certified for PRESS with fonts embedded are preferred. Print or screen optimized files are unacceptable. If using InDesign®, DO NOT save to PDF directly from the InDesign menu. You must first create a postscript file and then create the PDF with Acrobat®. Otherwise composite fonts created by InDesign will not process properly.

Non-Supported Applications:
Extra handling charges will be assessed for ads sent in the following files: Excel®, Word®, PowerPoint® and Publisher®.

Raster File Resolution (Photos):
350 DPI at final size saved in TIF or EPS format; minimum resolution, 247 DPI. Bitmap images for line art should have resolution between 800 and 1200 DPI. Save black and white halftones as grayscale. Images downloaded from or created for the Internet are unacceptable due to low resolution (72 DPI).

File Format:
High resolution JPEGs, TIFFs or PDFs with fonts and graphics embedded.

Fonts:
All fonts should be embedded in ads. Black and white text should be converted to grayscale.

Contact:
Include the name, phone number and address of the creator of the ad in case we need to contact them directly.

Charges:
Preflighting charges will be incurred if changes must be made to your files due to errors in ad size, unacceptable fonts, RGB images or unacceptable file formats. Charges are subject to an hourly rate with 1/2 hour minimum. Consult CSA for estimated charges.

General Rate Policy:
All advertising is accepted subject to the terms and provisions in this rate card. The CSA reserves the right to reject advertising which it feels is not in keeping with the publication’s standards. CSA shall not be responsible or liable for loss of profit, loss of business or any other consequential damages as a result of any error or omission in or of an advertisement. CSA assumes no liability for errors or omissions in advertiser indexes. In consideration of the acceptance of any advertising from the advertiser and/or the advertising agency for publication at the rates set forth in the rate card, the advertiser and/or the advertising agency represents and warrants that all material delivered to the CSA for publication shall be free of libel and that publication thereof will not violate or infringe any copyright, trademark, right of privacy, or any other statutory or common law property right of any person, and the advertiser and/or the advertising agency will indemnify, defend and save harmless the CSA, its assigns and successors against any claim, demand, cost, expenses and damages, including reasonable attorney’s fees incurred by the CSA arising out of or in connection with any breach by the advertiser and/or advertising agency of any of the foregoing. CSA reserves the right to place the word “Advertisement” in advertising which, in the CSA’s opinion, resembles editorial. The CSA reserves the right to change rates and terms herein at any time without notice. Contract advertisers will be given a grace period to the end of their contract term.
